Southampton are looking to add to their attacking options next season with the addition of Birmingham City forward Che Adams according to the Mail Online

The publication claim that the 22-year old is high up on Ralph Hasenhuttl’s shortlist ahead of the summer transfer window, and will make a fresh move for him.

The Mail report Saints were keen on signing the £15m-rated Adams in the January window, although Birmingham wouldn’t sell up after realising they wouldn’t be able to replace him due to their EFL transfer embargo.

Good move for Southampton?

The Saints have quite a few attacking options on offer, but Adams has shown this season that he is one of the most clinical finishers in the Championship.

As well as this, he is only 22 years old, and still has a lot of improvement to come in the next few years, and he could definitely do this whilst playing for Southampton.

With current first choice striker Shane Long surely nearing the back end of his footballing career, it may be a smart move to shell out for a new, young forward, even if he does cost the club a fee in the region of £15m.

Adams would surely fit in well at the club, should the move be completed in the summer.

Likely to happen?

With Birmingham currently sitting in the bottom half of the Championship, a move to the Premier League would be difficult to turn down for Adams.

Charlie Austin is one of the players set to leave Saints in the summer, which would leave the spot perfectly open for the arrival of the 22-year old forward.

Birmingham will be wanting to hold onto Adams in whichever way they can, but Premier League football may be too much to turn away.
