Alan Shearer omitted West Ham midfielder Declan Rice from his Premier League Team of the Week and it didn’t go unnoticed.

After uploading his latest selection to his personal Instagram account, Shearer was asked by a fan why the Hammers midfielder hadn’t made the cut after his performance in the 2-1 loss to Manchester United.

“Rice?” wrote the fan, before adding “He played amazing doesn’t matter about the result it matters on the individual performance” after another supporter claimed it was because the 20-year-old was on the losing team.

While the supporter went on to argue that Rice was amazing, but due to the fact he simply just put “Rice?” in his original message to Shearer, the pundit cheekily just replied “no thanks”.

OPINION

West Ham deserved to beat Manchester United on Saturday but decisions went against them, and it was a hard loss to take. With this in mind it’s surprising that no member of Manuel Pellegrini’s side made the cut when it came to Shearer’s latest TOTW, as there were a few who could argue they deserved a spot. However it’s easy to see why one fan was noticeably baffled over why Rice had been left out, as the midfielder was arguably the Hammers’ Man of the Match on Saturday. The midfielder dominated the midfield battle for his side and regularly strode forward on the ball to give Pellegrini’s side something a little extra going forward. Then again when you look who Shearer did opt to go for in midfield, who would you drop? Jordan Henderson stole the show for Liverpool against Chelsea, Kevin De Bruyne was in top-form against Crystal Palace, Lucas Moura scored his first hat-trick for Tottenham and Ryan Fraser heaped misery as Bournemouth tore Brighton apart.
