Newcastle United and West Ham are two sides that you would expect to be busy in the summer.

Both squads are bloated with a load of deadwood that they could really do with cutting adrift, and both will be hoping to vastly improve on their current rosters.

It was only a matter of time, therefore, before the pair were linked with some kind of story connecting the two as the rumour mill begins to churn into life as the end of the season approaches.

Perhaps, however, it is a bit of a shock to learn that it is a Hammers’ striker that the Toon Army are being linked with.

According to reputable source Claret & Hugh, the Magpies are being talked about as a potential destination for Javier Hernandez, who is being lined up for a £10 million exit over the summer by his current club.

The 106 cap Mexican international is understood to be frustrated by a lack of regular first team football in London, and is hoping to secure a move away.

If the report is true, and if Newcastle really are interested in him, they must go for broke to sign him up.

Their frontline has looked an awful lot better ever since Salomon Rondon and Miguel Almiron rocked up at St. James’ Park, but there are still times when they struggle to create enough chances, and perhaps the addition of a lethal finisher capable of sniffing out the faintest of goalscoring opportunities could be just what they need to take that next step towards climbing the Premier League table next term.
