Ian Abrahams took a subtle dig at West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere as he claimed some had forgotten he was still at the club.

The talkSPORT broadcaster made the comment when reflecting on Manuel Pellegrini’s press conference, as covered on the Hammers’ official website, as the experienced manager shared that the 27-year-old had been training without any problems.

“Someone who many have forgotten is actually at the club, Jack Wilshere, could be playing this weekend,” said Abrahams on talkSPORT (Thursday April 18th, 15:49)

Pellegrini remarks suggesting that Wilshere could play then aired on talkSPORT before Abrahams opted to comment on Wilshere further.

“It’s a move that has gone wrong for Jack, he was hoping when he left Arsenal in the summer that coming back to the club he supported as a boy… I think he was hoping to prove a few people wrong and injuries have once again dogged him since he has been at the London Stadium,” added the broadcaster.

“But if he can end the season with two or three games under his belt then maybe he will come back next season and that will be the season where he proves everyone wrong.”

OPINION

Abrahams has taken a unnecessary cheap shot at Wilshere by saying some have forgotten the player is at the London Stadium, as most are very aware that he is a Hammers player. This is because while the midfielder, who earns £100,000-a-week (Source: Spotrac), may not have been featuring for the side much this season due to an injury, his problems have been well documented in the media. In fact it’s hard to remember a month where a notable story hasn’t broken on Wilshere as it seems the media have constantly provided updates on him. If Abraham’s sly dig wasn’t enough, the broadcaster’s further comments on Wilshere aren’t the most flattering. The reporter suggests that Wilshere is still yet to prove people wrong over his injury record, despite his 2017/18 campaign at Arsenal being mostly injury-free, and only gives him an outside chance of changing the perception of his doubters next season. While Wilshere’s debut season at the Hammers has been disappointing due to his injuries, surely Abrahams should be more hopefully about the midfielder’s future.
