COMMENTARY
It was a night to forget for Manchester United on Wednesday as they were comfortably beaten by Manchester City at Old Trafford but some of the Red Devil’s stars came under more fire than most from the angry home crowd. Brazilian midfielder Fred, a 2018 summer signing, has had a mixed bag of a season and that did not stop on derby day, with the 26-year-old at the heart of much of the fury from supporters. His radar was all over the place when it came to his passing and it contributed quite significantly to City’s decisive second goal, giving the ball away to Raheem Sterling to trigger a lethal counter attack for the away side. He seemingly has a long way to go before he manages to build up any sort of trust among the Manchester United fan base and with a summer of rebuilding needed under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, perhaps he should be sweating about his place at Old Trafford after just a season in the north west of England.
This is Futbol has gathered a selection of the supporters’ livid tweets:
All I can do is laugh every time Fred gets the ball, he wouldn't even start for my Under 8s. #MUFC #CRFC

Truthfully don’t think I’ve seen a worse Midfielder in a united shirt than Fred! #MUFC

Fred is one of the worst passers of a football I’ve ever had the displeasure of watching ? #MUFC

I have been defending Fred for the whole season but if he can’t do it when it matters most why defend him.

I'd like to think that the person who scouted @Fred08oficial for Man United has been sacked. The amount of times he gives the ball away is on another level. He'd not even get in the bottom sides never mind United. #MUNMCI #Fred #mufc
