OPINION
There’s a new star emerging at Man United and he put in another brilliant performance at Old Trafford last night as his side went down 1-0 to Barcelona.
22-year-old midfielder Scott McTominay didn’t appear at all overawed by the occasion on Wednesday night and was one of the best players on the park – certainly in a United shirt – and dealt with Messi with few problems.
Talking on the BT Sport Champions League Highlight Show, as quoted by the Express, Michael Owen was full of praise for the player who’s made 42 senior appearances but has still been on the periphery of the first-team.
“I thought he was the stand-out man for Man United, played particularly well, looked calm on the ball,” Owen said.
“I love his presence, the size of him in that midfield as well. I think he’ll look back in the future and think that was one that really gave him a lot of confidence to be a proper Manchester United player.”
He wasn’t the only one impressed, either, with Rio Ferdinand saying he was “Positive, reliable, aggressive without the ball”.
Man United fans were also delighted with the Scotland international after the game against Barcelona, and it seems like manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a fan too – he’s started him in four of the last six Premier League games in addition to his Champions League outing. And we’re expecting to see a lot more of him in the season run-in after his recent displays.
One fan said he “seems to be getting better and better” while another said he should be in the side “week in, week out”.

Honestly I feared worse, thought McTominay and Fred had superb games, sadly Pogba was poor again as was Rashford. All in all, not too disappointed.

Finally.. I see it. I see McTominay. I see his abilities. He's not just tall but he's composed, strong, makes the right pass and is simple. Nothing like Fletcher but definitely a good footballer. He dominated some big names in there tonight

Thoughts on loss to Barca:
– McTominay was excellent
– Fred was brilliant
– Pogba was very good
– Young = ?
– Rashford was poor
– Messi was quiet
– Busquets should have seen red
– Dalot was great going forward
– Shaw was great part the OG
– 4 lost in 5 games
