OPINION
As far as starts go, Manchester City couldn’t have asked for a much better one in their 1-0 against Tottenham on Saturday lunchtime. After just a handful of minutes, and before most fans had really settled into the match, they struck first blood against their visitors, and the scorer of the goal will have delighted many supporters as much as the strike itself. It was young Phil Foden, a surprise inclusion for many, who leapt to get his forehead on Sergio Aguero’s cute headed centre, and you could tell instantly how much it meant to him. The teenager is City through and through, and as a fan as much as an idol, he will be desperate to ensure that his side pip Liverpool to the post when it comes to the Premier League title. Aside from his goal, however, this was a well-rounded and mature display from a talent who has the potential to go all the way in the professional game. He was efficient in possession, clever in his movement, and reminded anybody watching just why he is as hyped as he is. This was another big step for the young man as he continues to push towards a regular starting berth.
