Garth Crooks has heaped praise on Liverpool full-back Andrew Robertson after his display against Huddersfield on Friday night and put him down in his PL Team of the Week.

Robertson added two assists to his tally for the season –  that now stands at 11 for the season – as Liverpool blew Huddersfield away 5-0 to keep the pressure on Man City at the top.

Writing in his BBC column Crooks said, “What a season this lad has had. Robertson’s quality of pass has been as good as I have seen from any full-back in years.

“I have compared him to the great German full-back Manfred Kaltz, who was the only defender who could make a ball move like a boomerang.

As for Huddersfield – what a carry on. If you want to know why they are languishing at the foot of the Premier League table then you need look no further than the debacle between Jonas Lossl and Jon Gorenc Stankovic just 15 seconds into their game against Liverpool. What a shower.”

OPINION

When you think of Liverpool’s goals you think of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. But the contribution from the full-backs this season has been incredible. Robertson has 11 assists and Trent Alexander-Arnold isn’t that far behind with nine. That’s 20 goals the full-backs have been involved with from the 84 Liverpool have scored this season. That’s a pretty incredible statistic from a season that’s been breathtaking at times from Jurgen Klopp’s side. Unfortunately, it looks like it might all be in vain, with Man City beating Burnley 1-0 to stay top of the Premier League. There are two games left, however, and whatever happens and whoever ends up on top, neither deserve to lose. For Liverpool, missing out would be incredibly cruel, after putting in what would have been a title-winning display in pretty much any other season. All they can do is win the two games they’ve got left and then hope that Man City slip up. Pep Guardiola’s men play Leicester next and that will be a tough game. Brendan Rodgers has got his side playing brilliantly and they beat Arsenal 3-0 on Sunday. If they play like that they could help decide the title a week today.
