Everton midfielder Tom Davies looks set to agree an extension to his current contract which will see his deal run until 2023, according to reliable reporter Paul Joyce.

The Times Journalist Paul Joyce revealed that a deal for a the long-term contract was all but done, writing on his personal Twitter account on Sunday evening: “Tom Davies to sign contract extension at Everton until 2023”.

Davies, 20, has only played 16 times for the Toffees this season and has not started a Premier League game since February against Watford.

It’s been a hit and miss campaign for the youngster whose only goal involvement came in the League Cup against Rotherham where Davies registered an assist in a 3-1 win.

OPINION

Tom Davies should count himself lucky to be given such confidence with an extra year on an already long contract. Since bursting on the scene a couple of seasons ago, it has not quite happened this year for the England youth international. The arrival of Andre Gomes has been an inspirational move by Marco Silva and the Portuguese playmaker has been in great form alongside Idrissa Gueye and Gylfi Sigurdsson. That means that opportunities have been light for the 20-year-old who has failed to stamp his authority on the position and has not impressed enough to get a consistent place in the Everton side. This news is a shock as Davies has only played 10 minutes in the past two months and didn’t impress enough to even be in the squad last time out. There is no doubt how much of a talent Davies is but he will need to do much more to repay the apparent faith shown in him in the years to come.
