Everton have an agreement in place with Barcelona over Andre Gomes but the Spanish giants are looking to launch a bidding war for the Portuguese international’s capture this summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish publication claim that the Toffees have an option in place over the midfielder after signing him on loan from the Nou Camp in the 2018 summer transfer window, although report it is not a mandatory deal and that Barca are looking to sell him for a minimum fee of £17.3million (€20million) and hope for a bidding war, selling to the highest offer.

Gomes has been a mainstay for Marco Silva’s side in the Premier League this season, making 26 appearances so far.

Opinion

This is a confusing report and one which will not convince the Everton faithful they have much chance of seeing their loan star back at Goodison Park next season. On one hand it says that there is an agreement in place with the Toffees over a permanent move while the other says that Barca are seeking to launch a bidding war for his services. You can understand why the Spaniards are keen to try and drum up interest for his sale after a very good season in England but Everton will be hoping that his time on Merseyside has done enough to convince the Portuguese star that they are the right club for him. Otherwise Marco Silva is going to be looking for a new midfielder to fill what would be a gaping void in the centre of the park and considering how talented Gomes is, that is a task easier said than done.
