Adrian Durham claimed Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen is the player Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil dreams of being.

The talkSPORT broadcaster shared that he once stated two or three years ago that the Gunners star likely aspired to be more like Eriksen and ever since then he has been proven right.

“He (Eriksen) is the player Mesut Ozil dreams of being, always has been,” said Durham on talkSPORT (17:07, Wednesday April 24th).

“I said it two or three years ago and I keep being proven right.”

Durham was raving about Eriksen after the Tottenham midfielder scored the only goal in Spurs’ 1-0 win over Brighton.

OPINION

Ozil, who earns £350,000-a-week at the Gunners (Source: Spotrac), likely hasn’t thought about Eriksen at any point in his career. The Arsenal playmaker is clearly a talented player in his own right and isn’t in the shadow of Eriksen at all. While the Spurs playmaker is currently the one stealing the headlines, the plaudits and everyone’s admiration, that doesn’t mean Ozil is bothered. While it’s true that Ozil hasn’t had the best season at the Emirates, he is likely just focused on himself. The German midfielder is often criticised for his perceived lack of effort, and at times that is a harsh criticism that follows him around like a bad odour. Eriksen has gone missing in games for Spurs this season, but you don’t ever hear the wider media tearing into him for a lack of effort. Yet as soon as Ozil has a bad game for Arsenal, the pitchforks are out and everyone is calling for his head.
