Former Chelsea forward Didier Drogba sent Tottenham attacker Fernando Llorente a message on Instagram in order to congratulate him on Spurs reaching the Champions League semi-finals.

Llorente had previously taken to his personal Instagram account after Spurs ensured their place in the next round at Manchester City’s expense on Wednesday to reveal how amazing his side’s latest accomplishment was.

“What a night! Amazing! YESSS! We’re in @championsleague semifinals! More than ever… Come On You Spurs! #RoadToTheSemifinals #THFC,” wrote the 34-year-old.

Llorente’s post then saw Drogba send the player a simple four-word message in order to congratulate him.

“Well done big man,” wrote Drogba, via his verified Instagram account.

OPINION

Drogba’s message may have been brief but Llorente no doubt appreciated it. The veteran forward who has often found himself criticised at Spurs for not scoring enough goals when handed opportunities, is no doubt having his praises sung by a lot of people as it stands. Llorente scored in the 73rd minute of Spurs’ 4-3 loss to Man City on Wednesday and it was his goal that ensured Tottenham reached the semi-finals based on the away goal rule. While Llorente’s goal was debatable as it appeared to hit his arm and go in, with VAR even being called into action, he still deserves praise for getting in the right position at the right time. Some may believe the use of VAR didn’t lead to the right call being made, as many would have likely believed Llorente’s goal should have been ruled out, but that doesn’t mean the forward shouldn’t bask in his moment. Hopefully the feel-good moment will help carry the 34-year-old to some good performances in the coming week as with Harry Kane still on the sidelines, Mauricio Pochettino will need the forward to step up to cover for the England captain being missing.
