Manchester United are chasing a potential deal for Tottenham right back Kieran Trippier as the north London outfit weigh up the England international’s exit this summer, according to Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

The reputable Italian reporter, who works for Sky Sports Italy and is one of the most reputable journalists in football, claims on his personal website that Serie A outfit Napoli have already enquired about the diminutive defender, who stands at 5’8″ (source: Transfermarkt) but that Spurs are wanting to wait until summer before deciding on his exit.

However the Italian club are reportedly not the only side chasing his capture, with Tottenham’s top flight counterparts Manchester United also said to be keen on the 16-cap ace, who has been a mainstay for Mauricio Pochettino this season.

Opinion

The last thing that Tottenham want to be doing this summer is strengthening their top four rivals with their current stars but after Trippier’s up and down form this season he might not be considered too much of a loss. Yes, he might be a better choice for Pochettino than Serge Aurier but that is not saying much after the Ivorian’s own poor form and it seems as though a new right back has got to be a priority. The fact Spurs seem to be open to considering Trippier’s sale should tell you all you need to know about his future in north London and if Manchester United want to splash the cash for his exit then maybe it would not be the worst deal to shake hands on. They would certainly get more money from their Premier League counterparts than they would if they were to sell him to Napoli, but is it worth the risk of him coming back to bite Tottenham next season?
