Swansea City manager Graham Potter has laughed off suggestions that he could be a target for the permanent manager’s job at Celtic.

The 43-year-old was named as a contender for the position by the Scottish Sun, but has dismissed the report, claiming he has had no contact with the Hoops.

As quoted in the Daily Record, he said: “It’s just speculation in the media. I had a laugh with Oli McBurnie about it but it’s just speculation. I’ve had no contact with Celtic.

“I don’t really think about it to be honest. I’ve got a job to do here. You can’t stop the stories in the papers but I just do my best and help the players.”

OPINION

This probably isn’t too much of a surprise in truth. Potter is a good manager, but he has a lot of work on his hands at Swansea City, and you get the impression that he’s not the type to just walk away from a project. The hot seat at Parkhead would be a great opportunity for any young manager, but so is a Championship side with Premier League pedigree, so you imagine it would be quite the conundrum for the Englishman, That’s if the Bhoys were interested at all, but by the sounds of it they’re not. No contact doesn’t necessarily mean that they don’t admire Potter – it could just be that they are biding their time until the end of the season to make a move on a new boss – but you can’t just go making something out of nothing, and at the moment, that’s all there is. Nothing at all in this one.
