Leeds have a “live interest” in Liverpool attacker Harry Wilson, according to transfer expert Alan Nixon.

Nixon, the Sun’s transfer specialist, made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Thursday afternoon.

He was responding to a fan who had claimed that Wilson would be moving to Leeds if they got promoted. He was a way away from claiming it was a foregone conclusion, but he did admit that there was ongoing interest from Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Wilson is currently on loan at Championship rivals Derby until the end of the season and on a reported £4k-a-week.

OPINION

Wilson would be a fantastic recruit for Leeds. The 22-year-old has settled into the Championship brilliantly with Derby, scoring 12 goals in 35 league games and 14 across all competitions. He’s also scored two goals for Wales in nine caps. Wilson seems like the perfect Bielsa-type too – young, quick and with a real eye for goal. If they go up and can call on Jack Clarke and Harry Wilson, with possibly Jack Harrison as well if he stays after his loan, then Leeds will have a fearsome and young attack force to compliment their strikers. A previous report had said that Brendan Rodgers’ arrival at Leicester had probably scuppered any hopes of a move there, which would potentially leave the door open for Leeds. There’s still an outside chance of Derby going up through the play-offs though, and they might well have a claim on him if they go up. Of course, Leeds need to secure promotion themselves before they can start rebuilding, and we presume that Wilson is just one of a number of names that Leeds will try and move on once they’re assured of a top-two spot.
