Charlie Nicholas has predicted that Leeds United will be held to a 2-2 draw when they take on Preston at Deepdale on Tuesday night.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men were dealt a blow in the race for automatic promotion on Saturday when they lost to Birmingham and dropped down to third in the Championship standings as Sheffield United beat Preston.

Nicholas believes that Alex Neil’s side will put up a better fight against Leeds this week, claiming that the urgency of both teams to bounce back from defeat will see them cancelling each other out.

“Leeds had such a disappointment last weekend at Birmingham,” said Nicholas on the Sky Sports website. “They had their chances to level it and get something from the game, but that is sometimes how it goes. Preston need to bounce back following their loss to Sheffield United and must do it quickly if they are to really push on for sixth spot, but I cannot separate the two.”

OPINION

Leeds United must win this game otherwise their chance of winning automatic promotion to the Premier League will be on the verge of being dashed. It was an extremely poor result on Saturday when the Yorkshire giants lost to Birmingham and it is going to take some performance from them to try and bounce back to winning ways against Preston, who are chasing down a spot in the play-offs. The Lilywhites cannot be underestimated going into this fixture, which is why Bielsa might not make any changes from what he surely considers to be his strongest starting line-up. Leeds do not have an amazing recent history against Preston, which might worry some going into the game. They beat the Deepdale club 3-0 earlier this season, but that was after three matches against them without victory. Neils’ men can certainly upset the apple cart on Tuesday night if they play well.
