COMMENTARY
It would have been a shock for many when they opened the Newcastle United line up against Brighton and saw that Jonjo Shelvey had been handed a rare start. The creative maestro has had a season to forget thanks to injury but now he is back among the squad, the Toon Army would have been looking forward to seeing him ping balls left, right and centre as he has done so often in the past. Unfortunately for the visitors to the south coast, the ex-Liverpool man was some way off the desired pace – and the fans made that abundantly clear on Twitter. He looked a shadow of his former confident self, despite being given acres upon acres of time and space by the Seagulls, and it was a bitterly disappointing return after Newcastle supporters built their own hopes up. With the summer transfer window right around the corner, it would come as no surprise to see the Magpies cash in on his sale and use the funds to bring in some fresh talent. Judging by these responses, he would not be missed either.
This is FutbolĀ has gathered a selection of the supporters’ tweets on the former Swansea midfielder:

I would lose exactly 0 hours of sleep if we sold Shelvey in the summer

This is why Shelvey doesnt get a game

This is the problem with Shelvey. He often wants to play so deep that he clogs up that area of the pitch leaving no options further upfield.

Should really be 5 up the way brighton played that half, just because they've gone to sleep doesn't mean we should be. Need more urgency. Shelvey & Kenedy haven't broke a sweat #nufc
