COMMENTARY
When it rains, it pours for Newcastle United fans and after seeing Southampton halve the deficit and watch Miguel Almiron leave the pitch in tears, they were forced to watch Fabian Schar limp off too in what was a dire 20 minutes for the home side at St James’ Park. The defender has been one of the Magpies’ top performers and you can understand why the Toon Army were left devastated on Twitter. It was a perfect first 45 minutes, Ayoze Perez netting two sumptuous goals to leave them sitting comfortably, not to mention on the brink of guaranteed Premier League survival, but the second half was a nervy affair which was made worse by the Swiss defender’s departure due to what looked to be a muscular blow. It was a worrying sight and considering he is the best ball playing defender left in the back line, Florian Lejeune out for the season with his own injury setback, it leaves Rafael Benitez with a serious headache to deal with.
This is Futbol has gathered a selection of the supporters’ worried tweets:
Couldn't get any more #nufc than this. 2 up and coasting at half time, 18 minutes into the second half we've conceded, lost two players to injury and look like we've got a team out there who don't know what a football is or who their teammates are. Glad the snooker is on at 7pm.

Goodness me…. a tale of two halves. Schär now having to make way with a knock. Probably time to hide behind the sofa. #NUFC

We were up 2-0 and cruising. Now we’ve lost 2 of our best players and look all over the place
Newcastle United for you #nufc

Now Schar off as well. Honestly think its unlikely we win this game now. Expecting it to be all Southampton for the rest of this
