There’s nothing a sickening to see on a football pitch as a player going down in agony through something innocuous. It is never a good sign, and usually a harbinger of something dreadfully serious. That looked to be the case when Florian Lejeune crumpled to the deck in Newcastle United’s 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace earlier this month. The Frenchman has had his fair share of horrendous injuries, and sustained the kind of devastating knee ligament injury that has already sidelined him for several months during his time on Tyneside. It would appear, however, that Lejeune is not built like the rest of us mere mortals. Yes, he sustained ligament damage, and yes, he required surgery, but the latest behind the scenes video of his recovery would suggest that he is borderline superhuman. Shared by journalist Ciaran Kelly on Twitter, the footage shows Lejeune walking unaided just days after having his operation. According to Kelly, there were no issues with swelling or inflammation, and his rehabilitation can begin immediately. That is quite remarkable, and will have Newcastle fans jumping for joy. Lejeune has become a key part of this Toon side, and the sooner he is available again, the better that will be for Rafa Benitez and his men.
