OPINION

Is there a more frustrating figure in Scottish football than Alfredo Morelos?

The Colombian striker has the potential to be one of the most effective players in the country, but through a combination of impetuousness and downright hotheadedness, has spent vast portions this season in the stands watching his teammates.

Five red cards will be the abiding statistic of a season in which he has also scored 29 goals, and that is a real shame.

At first, it was easy to defend Morelos, perhaps suggest that there was some kind of refereeing conspiracy against him, but at this point, there can be no defence.

And he really doesn’t help himself.

As reported by the Scottish Sun, the 22-year-old has taken to Instagram to rile up Aberdeen ahead of their clash with Rangers on Sunday.

Morelos posted a clip of himself shushing the Dons’ fans, and clearly has his heart set on getting a reaction.

There’s nothing wring with a bit of tension, or with acting the pantomime villain every once in a while, but there are a couple of infuriating caveats to Morelos’ post.

Firstly, he has been sent off in all three league meetings with Aberdeen this season. That is a truly appalling record, and hardly one to be boasting about on social media.

Secondly, and perhaps worse, Morelos will miss the game on Sunday through, you guessed it, suspension.

Surely, the best way to silence Aberdeen would have been to play and score against them. Instead, he will yet again be watching from the stands.

Morelos needs to grow up, and quickly, before he is given the boot from Ibrox for good.
