Everton defender Yerry Mina has only made 12 Premier League appearances since arriving from Barcelona last summer.

Many fans must have been excited about the 6ft 5in [Transfermarkt] giant’s arrival, especially after he caused England trouble when his Colombia side faced them in the World Cup last year.

However, his move has not gone to plan and he hasn’t made the impact he thought he would on Merseyside this season.

Whether he will make an appearance before the end of the season remains to be seen, but he surely faces an uphill battle to get into Marco Silva’s plans next term.

The Toffees want to sign loanee centre-back Kurt Zouma permanently, while Michael Keane has been really impressing in recent games.

Mina has not been outstanding in the few games that he has featured in so far, and the fact that he has been injured a few times already shows that he is prone to suffering setbacks. To be honest, it looks like Everton may have taken a risk in signing him.

Yes, he has not had a fair chance to prove himself – but based on the form of his teammates, he is not going to get that opportunity any time soon. Zouma and Keane rightly deserve to be the manager’s first choice pairing.

Mina must have known that he was joining an Everton team where his spot was not guaranteed – and if he wants to earn it next season, then he will have to get his head down and prove his worth.

If not, then he will only be keeping the bench warm.
