Sky Sports pundit Alan McInally was baffled by one of Kemar Roofe’s efforts at goal in Leeds United’s 2-1 defeat to Wigan at Elland Road on Good Friday.

Roofe came off the bench at half-time as Marcelo Bielsa aimed to add more firepower to his attack.

However the ex-West Brom ace failed to have the desired impact as he squandered a straightforward chance to put the Whites ahead when the scores were level at 1-1.

McInally was confused by Roofe’s attempt to chest the ball past the Wigan goalkeeper, rather than heading it.

“There’s an early cross into the box, Kemar Roofe doesn’t get a lot of power on it, he just tries to direct it a little bit,” McInally said on Sky Sports News on Saturday [04:14pm].

“It’s a good ball in. Watch Kemar Roofe, he guides it, he can’t get a lot of power on it.

“He actually uses his chest rather than his head, which I do not understand whatsoever. It makes it an easy save for Christian Walton in the Wigan goal.

“That was a big chance.”

OPINION

Not a single Leeds player can hold his head up high after that shocker against Wigan on Friday. Roofe came off the bench at half-time and had very little impact in the attack, with that chance being one of the best that they had. It was more than just a poor performance by Leeds though because Wigan were brilliant and they deserve a lot of credit. Walton was amazing in goals for Paul Cook’s side and although he didn’t have to work that hard to stop this Roofe effort that McInally was baffled by, he did make some other great saves to stop the Whites from getting anything back against them. Leeds’ hopes of winning automatic promotion have taken a major hit after that defeat, but as we have seen in the last few weeks, Sheffield United could still slip up. However the Blades probably have the more preferable games left to play.
