Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor has heaped praise on captain Scott Brown, claiming he has a “knack of knowing what to do”.

The veteran midfielder faces a two game ban after failing to beat an SFA charge on Friday, and McGregor has reaffirmed just how important he is to his side.

As quoted in the Scottish Sun, he said: “Broony’s incredible. He’s an incredible player and he has been for a decade or more at Celtic and before that.

“He just seems to have that knack of knowing what to do, and he just seems to wind people up for whatever reason!

“I’d rather speak about his footballing ability and how good a captain and leader he is for us boys. To have him beside you is a massive positive.”

OPINION

Scott Brown will go down in history as one of the greatest Celtic captains of all time. The period of success he has helped oversee has been immense, and like him or loathe him, you have to admit that he is some player. His battling mentality in the centre of the park brings a steel to this Hoops side that has been a key facet of their ongoing success, and fans will be dreading the day when he does eventually hang up his boots. Over the next couple of games his absence will be felt acutely, there can be no doubt about that. The Bhoys are in a strange kind of limbo at the moment having drawn their last two league matches 0-0, and while their eighth successive title is nowhere near in doubt, they could really benefit from Brown’s unique brand of terrifying leadership to give them the kick up the backside they need to get over the line.
