Gary Lineker has praised Everton after Marco Silva’s men beat Arsenal 1-0 at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

Phil Jagielka’s 10th-minute goal was enough to secure all three points for the Toffees, but they could have made the scoreline a lot more comfortable with a number of squandered chances throughout the Premier League fixture.

Former Toffees striker Lineker took to his personal Twitter account to deliver his verdict on the Merseyside club after full-time, while also slamming Arsenal as their away-day woe continued.

“Good performance from Everton who should have won comfortably. Arsenal really poor on the road again,” the Match of the Day host said.

OPINION

It was a very good performance by Everton on Sunday, and they deserved to beat Arsenal by more goals than they did. Luckily the Gunners’ attack was limp and failed to break down a resolute Toffees defence. Jagielka rolled back the years with his fine display while Kurt Zouma also gave a good account of himself and perhaps proved that the Merseyside club should sign the defender on a permanent deal from Chelsea once his loan expires at the end of the season. Everton’s form has been very impressive since their meltdown against Newcastle last month. They have won their last three, seeing off Chelsea, West Ham and Arsenal. Silva’s men definitely have the ability to mount a late charge to finish seventh in the table as they are now just one point behind Leicester, who currently occupy the role of being the ‘best of the rest’ in the Premier League.
