Liam Cooper appears to be in the Leeds United squad that will face Wigan Athletic at Elland Road on Friday afternoon.

The Leeds captain missed the 1-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday last week and Marcelo Bielsa confirmed this week that the Scottish centre-back was a major doubt for the upcoming meeting with the Latics.

However a video clip by Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Joe Urquhart [45 seconds] shows that Cooper, 27, has arrived at Elland Road with the rest of the squad on Friday, and appears to be in the squad as he has arrived in the same clothes with a suitcase, like every other player.

OPINION

It will be a major boost for Leeds if Cooper is in the squad to play against Wigan. Although Gaetano Berardi did a solid job at centre-back against Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds will definitely be better off to have their captain available and on the pitch alongside Pontus Jansson in the heart of the defence. Cooper has made 33 appearances in all competitions for the Whites this season and they have suffered from some poor results when he has been on the sidelined. Leeds have drawn with Swansea and been beaten by Hull and Nottingham Forest without Cooper in their side, so to have him involved against Wigan will surely increase the chances of a win for Bielsa’s men. Leeds need to win every game they have remaining this season if they want to avoid the play-offs and achieve promotion automatically. With Cooper back from injury, the chance of them finishing in the top-two has risen dramatically.
