When Vincent Janssen stepped out onto the pitch for Tottenham in their win against Brighton there would have been many fans rubbing their eyes in disbelief.

After making his last appearance for Spurs in 2017, and spending last season out on loan at Fenerbahce, the 24-year-old Dutch hitman was given a shock second chance by manager Mauricio Pochettino versus the Seagulls.

He might have only been given a few minutes from the substitutes’ bench and he might not have impacted the game greatly, but it was still an intriguing sight for the Lilywhite faithful who would have surely thought they had seen the last of the striker.

It seems that they were not alone in their surprise at Janssen being given a chance – with Pochettino reported not to understand why he is still in north London.

Football.London claim that the striker is not trusted by the Argentinian boss and that he is baffled as to why the former outcast has remained at the club, and there is only one man who can give an answer to solve his bewilderment – Daniel Levy.

The Tottenham chairman is ultimately the man tasked with buying and selling players and the buck stops with him when it comes to the striker.

If he really wanted Janssen out the door, he would have secured a deal by hook or by crook, but instead the hitman remains in north London and is now part of the first team squad once again.

It might be that Spurs did not receive an offer that Janssen deemed suitable for the 24-year-old, or that he did not push his exit enough to build up interest – either way, he remains at Tottenham much to Pochettino’s confusion.
