COMMENTARY

Rumours can spread like wildfire and it seems as though that has been the case with Leeds United on Monday. The news making its way round social media, seemingly started on Leeds fan forum Waccoe.com, where a user has claimed Kalvin Phillips’ brother has told someone the news, and relayed by Leeds fan Luke McManus on Twitter, is that Phillips, a favourite of the Elland Road faithful as well as manager Marcel Bielsa, has been dropped for the club’s clash against Brentford in the late kick off. While there is no official confirmation, the gossip has not gone down well in the slightest with supporters, with many thinking that it should have been Adam Forshaw dropped after the club’s shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of Wigan Athletic on Friday afternoon. Phillips has been a mainstay in the Leeds line up this season, operating either as a defensive midfielder or as a ball playing centre back, and to see the axe fall on his head would come as a real surprise. It remains to be seen whether he is injured or even if he is left out the starting XI, but if he is there will be questions asked as to why he was missing. With the pressure for the Championship automatic places heating up, every little detail is going to come under scrutiny.
