OPINION

Patrick Bamford may not have been at his best last week against Sheffield Wednesday, but he scored a fine goal for Leeds United in their 2-1 defeat against relegation-threatened Wigan at Elland Road on Friday afternoon. As it was the only thing for Leeds fans to really shout about in the Championship fixture, it is no surprise to see many of them blown away by the former Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker. It was a very nice finish by Bamford, and it was perfectly timed too because Pablo Hernandez missed a penalty not long before. Unfortunately, that goal was as good as it got for the 25-year-old, who didn’t really do a lot else in the rest of the match. It was one of Leeds’ worst performances of the season and not even a good goal by Bamford will be any consolation as Sheffield United are now second in the table and Leeds’ automatic promotion hopes have taken a major blow.
