West Ham have finished adding the new claret carpet to surround the pitch at the London Stadium, according to football.london reporter Sam Inkersole.

The reliable journalist posted two images of the new-look London Stadium via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday after visiting the home of the Hammers.

BBC Sport has previously reported that the cost of the new carpet is estimated to have cost £250,000 and will be seen by supporters for the first team on Saturday when West Ham take on Leicester in the Premier League.

OPINION

Was it worth it? A quarter of a million pounds just to put some carpet around the edge of the pitch? It definitely looks a lot nicer and will make the fans feel more at home to see their colours and their badge surround the pitch at a stadium that hasn’t quite felt like home since laving Upton Park. The London Stadium has been widely criticised since the Hammers moved there, and for good reason. Fans are far away from the pitch in a stadium that was designed to host athletics and not football. In the club’s first season at the old Olympic stadium, there were major issues with stewarding and segregation, but that appears to have been sorted now and there are some positive changes being made by West Ham. It’s not Upton Park and never will be, but at least the club is trying to make it better for the fans.
