Leeds are set for a huge potential boost with news that there is an agreement in place for a one-year extension to the contract of Pablo Hernandez if Leeds get promoted.

The clause was reported by Football Insider who said that Hernandez had signed a two-year contract last year that would keep him at Elland Road until 2020.

However, they also claimed that a Leeds source has told them that a one-year extension would kick in if Leeds were promoted at any time during his current contract.

That would mean Hernandez wowing the Elland Road faithful until 2021.

There are many Leeds players who have performed heroics under Marcelo Bielsa but Pablo Hernandez has been a standout, second only perhaps to potential Player of the Year Kalvin Phillips, and the veteran 34-year-old has rolled back the years to produce arguably the best season of his career.

Bielsa has heaped praise on him, saying he does “things you can’t teach” and claiming, incredibly, that the player could actually make him a better coach.

Pundits have queued up to pay their respects too, with Tony Gayle and Keith Andrews both thrilled by his performances this season.

His 12 goals and 12 assists have played a huge part in Leeds standing on the brink of automatic promotion, and the prospect of Hernandez and Bielsa in the Premier League next season is a mouth-watering one.

The news of his contract extension clause will thrill the Leeds fans and rightly so.
