Gordon: Moyes would be good fit for Celtic

|

Ex-Rangers man Dale Gordon has backed David Moyes for the permanent managerial role at Celtic, suggesting that he would be a success despite not being a “trendy” manager.

Neil Lennon is currently at the helm at Parkhead, but that could change come the summer, and Gordon believes that the former Manchester United manager, who has experience in the Champions League, could be the idea candidate for the Hoops.

As quoted in the Scottish Sun, he said: “David Moyes would be a good fit for Celtic as manager. There are question marks about Neil Lennon. Going back to your old club doesn’t always work.

“I would compare Moyes’ situation to that of Brendan Rodgers. His problem is he is not a trendy manager — but you don’t become a bad manager overnight.

OPINION
On the face of it, this would actually make a lot of sense. Moyes is not a bad manager, he has just had to deal with some really difficult situations since he decided to leave Everton, and a move north of the border could really suit him. Taking over Manchester United after Sir Alex Ferguson was always going to be a poisoned chalice, Real Sociedad felt like the decision of a man looking for an unexpected twist to jolt his career into life, and there isn’t a manager in the world who wouldn’t have struggled to keep Sunderland up the year that he took them down. He did well at West Ham last year, and could maybe feel somewhat aggrieved that he wasn’t given the job on a full time basis, but there is still life in Moyes’ career yet. In many ways, he has become a figure of fun, somebody to ridicule on Twitter because it’s the done thing, but when you look beneath the surface, Moyes is a good boss, and one who could probably work wonders at a club like Celtic.
