Alloa Athletic manager James Goodwin has suggested that Jake Hastie’s pace and power will be enough to make him a hit with Rangers.

The 20-year-old is set to join up with Rangers from Motherwell this summer after agreeing a pre-contract agreement with the Gers, as reported by the Daily Record, and his former manager Goodwin has backed him for success at Ibrox.

As quoted in the Daily Record, he said: “The modern day game is all about pace and power and Jake has that in abundance.

“In one of his early games for us against Dundee United at Tannadice he terrorised the right back and we knew then we had ourselves a player.

“We knew we just had to get him on the ball and leave him isolated in one v one situations against the full back because as soon as he knocks it by the full back you’re not catching them.”

OPINION

Hastie clearly has a lot of potential, and with every passing endorsement, you can’t help feeling more and more as if his move to Ibrox is a good idea for all involved. At 20, he is already showing promise far beyond his years, and if he can continue on this trajectory then he is surely set to be a big hit in Glasgow. Steven Gerrard is a manager who has shown already that he is willing to be faith in youth when required, and that, plus the lengths Rangers have gone to to ensure that Hastie is theirs next year, would suggest that the club foresees a bright future for the young man. In the short term, his physicality will make him a worrying prospect for defences, but looking ahead, if he can add the quality and consistency that you would expect him to, then Hastie could establish himself as one of the most dangerous players in the Scottish game.
