Rangers might have scored three goals on Saturday afternoon against Hearts but it seemed as though it was at the other end of the pitch where one man was turning heads.

Jermain Defoe did what he does best in opening the scoring while Ryan Jack doubled the Gers’ lead, but it was the surprise figure of Nikola Katic who put the cherry on top for Steven Gerrard’s side with the Light Blues’ third just after half time.

The summer signing has found himself in and out of the side this season, fighting it out with the likes of Connor Goldson and Joe Worrall for a place in the starting XI, but this was second consecutive start – something which last happened for the 22-year-old in the league back in February.

It was another commanding performance and it left the Ibrox faithful raving on Twitter, which is surely not good news for fellow 22-year-old Worrall whose shaky performances are like chalk and cheese to Katic’s shining displays.

Goldson is not leaving the starting XI any time soon and there is no way the Croatian deserves to be axed either, leaving Worrall sinking like a lead balloon to third spot in the pecking order.

He has been a favourite of Gerrard throughout the whole campaign but the manager is surely realising the error of his ways after leaving Katic out – something which is unlikely to continue now.
