Steven Gerrard is considering a move for Aberdeen forward Greg Stewart, according to the Evening Times.

The 29-year-old is currently on loan at the Dons from Championship side Birmingham City, but could be available on a free with his contract set to expire this summer.

The Scot has hit nine goals in all competitions this season, and spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Kilmarnock before cutting his stint short to join Aberdeen in January.

OPINION

Gerrard is obviously keen to bring in more firepower, and Stewart could be a really decent addition to his squad, especially on a free transfer. The Scot is experienced, and a proven goalscorer, and even though his form may have dipped a little in the second half of the season, he has shown more than enough to suggest that he could be a really prudent acquisition for the Gers. At the moment, they are relying too much on Alfredo Morelos, and that presents a couple of issues. Firstly, there’s no guarantee that he will be at the club come next season, and more pressingly, there isn’t even any guarantee that he will be on the pitch week by week given his abysmal disciplinary record. Jermain Defoe perhaps hasn’t sparked in the manner that he was expected to, and if the Gers are serious about a title challenge, more bodies are needed. Stewart would be a good start.
