Tottenham’s stadium finally opened for its first Premier League game on Wednesday night and Mauricio Pochettino’s men celebrated with their first win in six games.

The 2-0 win against Crystal Palace put them back into third place in the league, one point ahead of Arsenal who have played one game less.

BBC pundit Gary Lineker delivered his verdict on the new stadium shortly before kick-off, exclaiming, “What a stadium @SpursOfficial. Worth the wait. Fan-bloody-tastic.”

He wasn’t the only person praising the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with former Tottenham player Graham Roberts calling it “breathtaking”. Roberts also singled out Dele Alli and Moussa Sissoko for praise after the game.

OPINION

Okay, so it’s now official. Tottenham fans are the envy of football fans around the UK. The new stadium was well worth the wait and any thoughts of taking time to settle in were banished with a deserved 2-0 win, with Heung-min Son getting the first ever senior goal. Harry Kane didn’t get on the scoresheet but we don’t think it will take him long to christen his new home. Tottenham fans will be hoping he does it in the next game, an absolutely huge fixture against Man City in the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday. That’s a game deserving of the splendour of the new stadium and it will give people round the country to get their first glimpse of the ground after last night’s game wasn’t shown on Sky. So far so good though – Tottenham have a 100% record in their new stadium and if they can keep that up through Wednesday, they’ll have a really good chance of knocking Man City out of the Champions League in what would be a huge upset. Tottenham play Man City three times in the space of 12 days from Tuesday in season-defining games for Pep Guardiola’s side.
