Everton defender Brendan Galloway has been promoted to first team training, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The regional newspaper reports that the 23-year-old – who has not made an appearance for the Toffees’ senior side this season – had earned his call-up from Marco Silva due to the fact that he has recently returned to form and fitness.

Galloway has made 11 appearances for the under-23s since returning from his loan spell at League One side Sunderland last year, however, the report adds that he is set to make a permanent switch away from Goodison Park this summer.

OPINION

Injury has no doubt ravaged the progress Galloway could have made this season – if he had not got injured, who knows whether he would have made an appearance in the first team in that time? However, that did not seem to be the case this season – but the fact that Silva has promoted him to first team training would have no doubt raised his confidence that little bit. There is every chance that he may play for them once again before the season ends, and that would surely be a bitter sweet end to a campaign where bad form and injury has got in the way. The fact that he is expected to move away on a permanent basis this summer will be good for him though, as it will give him the chance to have a fresh start. He needs the game time, and to be quite honest, the left-back is not going to get much of that next term.
