When Tottenham fans saw Juan Foyth named as a right wing back in Saturday’s clash against Manchester City, there is little doubt they were fearing the worst. The Argentine, a fringe figure for Mauricio Pochettino this season, is very much a centre back with the ability to fill in as a central midfielder, so to see him shoehorned in out wide was a shock considering the level of opposition. However, it seems as though his performance against the likes of Raheem Sterling has elevated his standing among the Spurs faithful, with one supporter claiming he is “100 times better” than 28-year-old teammate Kieran Trippier at right back. A bold statement but considering he managed to keep Sterling and the rest of City’s stars quiet for much of the game at the Etihad Stadium, putting him in there more often might be something Mauricio Pochettino has to give serious thought to. He is still going to be back up to the senior stars for most of the season but this summer could see him establish himself as a mainstay in the starting XI for the next campaign.

This is Futbol has picked out of number of Spurs fans’ tweets raving over the Argentine:
