As a defender the last thing you want to do is make the referee make a difficult decision but that was exactly what Nottingham Forest’s Yohan Benalouane did in their clash against Sheffield United. WIth Gary Madine charging down on goal the defender went to ground to try and get the ball but missed, catching the Blades’ forward with minimal contact. However, the referee judged Benalouane to be Forest’s last man and as such handed the centre back his marching orders, leaving his side in the lurch. As a couple of the fans state on Twitter, it was a harsh red card but at the same time it was seriously poor defending from the Tunisian international. Had he stood Madine up he could have got reinforcements in to try and win the ball back. Instead he took matters into his own hands and paid the price, picking up his second red card of the season. A lesson to be learned for the 32-year-old – although at that age, you would expect him to know not to make such silly decisions already.
