Peter Crouch has heaped praise on Tottenham attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen.

The Dane has been in eye-catching form this season, and ex-Spurs striker Crouch has been quick to single him out for his performances this campaign.

Writing in a column for the Daily Mail, Crouch picked Eriksen as a member of his team of the season, and said: “It has been a hard year for Spurs, with big injuries for Harry Kane and Dele Alli, but the Dane is a reason they have a chance to reach the Champions League final and are still on course to finish in the top four.

“He has taken responsibility and thrived.”

Eriksen, 27, is named in Crouch’s team of the season along with his teammate Son Heung-Min.

OPINION

Eriksen is a fine, fine footballer, and one who deserves all the praise and plaudits he gets. Whenever Spurs have looked ropey or tired this season, he has still managed to maintain a high standard that has elevated those around him and posed a constant threat. His vision and execution are second to none, and there are few players in European football who can read game in the manner and with the clarity that he does. The obvious concern for Spurs is that they haven’t been able to tie him down to a new contract beyond the expiry of his current deal at the end of next season, and that could prove to be a real dilemma for them this coming summer. Do they try and wait it out in the hope that a deal can be concluded some time next year, knowing that they stand to lose millions if it can’t, or do they cut their losses and sell up now? Supporters will be hoping it is the latter, but sometimes you have to lead with your head instead of your heart.
