West Brom have got work underway on yet another behind-the-scenes arrival after Steven Reid’s appointment to help manager James Shan during his caretaker role until the end of the season, according to the Express and Star.

The newspaper claim on their website that after the official arrival of Reid as a member of Shan’s backroom staff, the club are working on bringing a second senior figure to the Hawthorns, with the hope that they will be on board imminently.

Reid has joined the club after coaching spells at Crystal Palace and Reading and it is stated that the second new arrival is set to be completed in the coming days.

Opinion

The Baggies are clearly looking to bolster Shan with experience around him but Reid is hardly the most wily head that they could have found. He is still a relative newcomer to the coaching game so it may be that his West Brom connection, having played for the club at the start of the current decade, got him his new position. You would hope for the club’s sake that they will look to bring in someone a little older and with more know how to guide the club through what looks to be a playoff campaign at the end of the season. Shan and Reid are simply not well versed enough to overcome the likes of Dean Smith, Chris Wilder or Marcelo Bielsa if they were to meet in the playoff semi finals or final. There have been a couple of names circulating as to who the next arrival at the Hawthorns might be, but it seems as though fans will not have to wait long to find out the truth.
