Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett has delivered a Twitter update about West Brom caretaker manager James Shan.

Shan has been in caretaker charge of West Brom since manager Darren Moore was sacked after the 1-1 draw against Ipswich on March 9.

Shan has won his three games in charge, keeping West Brom in the hunt for an unlikely automatic promotion place.

Dorsett said that “senior players have told the club’s bosses they’re very happy with the job James Shan is doing, and there’s no urgent need to appoint a new manager.”

He added that more experienced managers had been “spoken to in case Shan feels he needs more support as Albion near the play-offs.”

OPINION

It seems madness that a manager would be sacked when his side were firmly in the hunt for the play-offs, especially without having a replacement lined up, but such is modern football. Darren Moore was sacked after three without a win, but the two losses were against Sheffield United and Leeds, currently second and third in the table. The draw against rock-bottom Ipswich was the final straw and Shan has steadied the ship, with three points almost making them a lock for the play-offs. That’s the likely route back up now for West Brom, although they’re only six points off Leeds in second with seven games to go. Bulldozing their way into the top-two would be nothing short of amazing, but going up via the play-offs could stand him in good stead for the permanent job. Shan appears to have the support of the senior West Brom players, which makes a huge difference, and it looks like the club has lined him up extra help if he needs it.
