OPINION
Sometimes a game just needs a moment of inspiration, a flash of magic to shatter the deadlock and get the wheels in motion. If ever there was a game like that it was Sheffield United’s 2-0 Good Friday win over Nottingham Forest. The Blades, without Billy Sharp and on the cusp of a dreadfully tight run-in, looked cagey in the first half, generally relying on in the forehead of Gary Madine and very little else as a means of getting up the field. It wasn’t pretty, but more importantly, it wasn’t working, and the longer a match like that goes on for a side chasing promotion, the worse the nerves jangle. Thankfully for Chris Wilder and his side, however, there were to be two key moments after the interval. The first came when Yohan Benalouane was sent packing for a last ditch lunge on David McGoldrick, reducing Forest down to 10 men, and the second, brilliantly, came from the right boot of Mark Duffy. The playmaker picked up the ball about 18 yards out, cut onto his right boot, and unleashed a stunning, curled effort into the top bracket. It was a sublime strike, and one that could prove to have far reaching consequences for the Blades’ Premier League bid.
