TalkSPORT pundit and journalist Darren Lewis has cast his verdict over the PFA Championship Team of the Year, calling Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish the best player in the league.
The Villa midfielder reportedly missed out on a move to the Premier League last summer and has spearheaded his side’s late push in to the play-offs.
Mirror writer Lewis was especially impressed with the attacking midfielder’s attitude and his performances that have proved many people wrong
Speaking on talkSPORT Drive (Thursday, April 25 7:20pm) Lewis spoke of his admiration for Grealish: “He is head and shoulders above the rest in the Championship”.
“I think he has matured, last year I did not believe the £30million valuation was right but now he’s a different player and is definitely worth £30million now.”
Grealish missed a portion of the season through injury but since his return he has been crucial to his side’s play off push. His six goals and six assists have seen Villa confirm their top six place.

There is no doubt that Jack Grealish is one of the Championship’s best player. £30million was definitely a steep valuation last year but the more he plays and matures under Dean Smith, the more he warrants that valuation. Since gaining the captains armband his influence has been admirable, it has matured him as a player and the freedom he plays with in the Villa midfield has been world class. The only thing holding the playmaker back is the results in front of goal, a player with the amount of responsibility that Grealish has, has to bring better results. Six assists is not enough for his team when you compare it to a player like Pablo Hernandez at Leeds who has 12 goals and 12 assists, double the amount of Grealish. The question will always remain on whether he can do it in the Premier League and Grealish will definitely want to show that he can while captaining his beloved Aston Villa.
