James Bree is wrongly fighting for his Aston Villa career as the Championship side should be looking to hold on to the defender for many more seasons to come.

According to the Birmingham Mail  the 21-year-old’s future at the club looks bleak with the club having several right-backs on their books to choose from.

While Dean Smith did opt to surprisingly loan James Bree to Ipswich Town in January, that doesn’t mean the defender should be pushed out the door anytime soon.

The 21-year-old did an okay job when featuring for the Villans in the Championship this season and is putting in solid performances for the Tractor Boys now he is playing for them on a temporary basis.

Bree may have made some errors during his outings for the Villans but when you consider his age, he shouldn’t be written off just yet.

The Championship is a hard league to thrive in and he did well when you take his age into account; especially if you acknowledge the fact he is very likely to improve from the experience he is continuing to pick up.

Bree may not be good enough to feature in the Premier League, but is another loan move really too awful to consider?

The Villans have an outside chance of playing in England’s top-flight next season, as they look likely to be in the play-offs,  but they don’t want to be rash when dealing with the futures of their potential stars of the future.

It just makes sense to loan Bree out to another Championship side if the Villans end up in the Premier League, as he does seemingly have the potential to be good enough for the top-flight in the future.

With that in mind, Smith should intervene by seeing sense regarding the defender’s potential and make it clear that his future is secure at Villa Park.
