Leeds United’s hopes of being automatically promoted from the Championship are hanging by a thread after their 2-1 loss to Wigan on Friday.

The Whites managed to surrender their lead to a side which only had ten men from the 14th minute onwards, and it is safe to say that they were eventually outplayed by a resilient Latics side.

Most of the team were out of sorts, that is for sure. Marcelo Bielsa is no doubt concerned about the turn his players have taken, but one of them he will be tearing his hair about is Jack Harrison.

The 22-year-old has been rather impressive in recent weeks, and he is surely on course to extend his stay from Manchester City beyond the end of the season. The improvement he has made has been jaw-dropping to say the least, and he would fully warrant a prolonged loan spell.

However, it looked like things took a turn for the worse in the defeat against Wigan on Friday – Harrison looked a complete shadow of himself, and a far cry from the player that we have witnessed in the last few weeks.

He was just frustrating to watch all afternoon, and this is no doubt going to cause Bielsa to tear his hair out. Harrison, along with Pablo Hernandez, has been one of his best players recently, and him going off the boil could seriously derail their chances of automatic promotion.

To have it snatched away from them now is the last thing Bielsa needs at the moment, so there is no doubt that Harrison needs to step it up before the clash against Brentford on Monday. The mainstay – who has made 36 appearances this season – is vital to what they could achieve this term.

Either way, Bielsa will be seriously worried about Harrison – and rightly so.
