Simon Grayson claimed Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa didn’t trust midfielder Izzy Brown based on how he had used him this season.

The former Leeds boss shared that it appeared as if Bielsa didn’t trust the 22-year-old to come into the team or the squad to do a job, as Brown has been fit enough to play for the U-23s on a regular basis.

Grayson noted that Bielsa called upon Brown in the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa, but went on to dub the midfielder a gamble that hadn’t paid off for his former side.

“Well he’s played at lot for the U-23s but it just doesn’t seem like Bielsa favours him or trusts him to come into the team or into the squad,” said Grayson on talkSPORT 2 (12:18, Sunday April 28th).

“But he’s in today, they took a gamble when they signed him as he wasn’t fit and it hasn’t paid off.”

OPINION

Grayson seemed like he was about to argue Brown’s cause for more appearances at Elland Road, but then panned his time at the club. While the former Whites boss seems to believe Bielsa is the reason the 22-year-old’s loan move from Chelsea hasn’t worked out, that won’t be much comfort for him. Brown was no doubt hoping to pick up some vital first-team experience at Elland Road this season, but it just hasn’t worked out that way. You feel it’s probably been a frustrating time for the playmaker and this season will be one he will want to wipe from his memory. While Brown has impressed for Leeds’ U-23s this season, that’s not going to help his cause at Chelsea. The midfielder is likely to head back to Stamford Bridge in the summer only to go straight out the exit door instantly for another loan move. If Brown’s next loan spell goes similar to how his time with Leeds has gone, then his future at Chelsea will look very bleak to say the least.
