Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam claimed James Shan had steadied the ship at West Brom since becoming temporary manager of the club.

The 40-year-old is the current caretaker manager of the Baggies following the Championship club sacking Darren Moore in March and they currently sit fourth in the league.

Adam seemed to be impressed by the job Shan had done so far but did seem to imply he was against the sacking of Moore as he simply described it as incredible.

“The manager has come in and steadied the ship after an incredible sacking,” said Adam on BBC Radio 5 Live (20:01, Monday April 29th).

OPINION

Was there a ship to be steadied? Moore was sacked when West Brom were sat fourth and that’s exactly where they are now. Shan has done an okay job in charge of the Baggies but it’s hard to be overly positive of what he has achieved, as it’s not like he’s changed the direction the club has gone in or anything like that. However maybe Adam is referring to the fact West Brom rocked the boat themselves by sacking Moore and that Shan has done a good job to keep the team charging towards the play-offs despite the board’s rather bold decision. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Shan in the summer if the Baggies do win the play-offs, as how do you dismiss the manager who helps you get to the Premier League? However Shan isn’t exactly the most proven manager to guide the Baggies in the top-flight, and that could see them come undone.
