To say that Jack Wilshere’s first season at West Ham has not gone to plan would be a grass understatement and the east London faithful must be pretty frustrated about his struggles so far.

It should come as no surprise that it has been injury which has decimated his campaign at the London Stadium, the former Arsenal man failing to shake off his moniker of a walking sick note after a history of fitness problems throughout his career.

He was meant to be someone to help transform the Hammers’ midfield but so far he has done nothing of the sort and the heat is surely rising on the 2018 signing as the club reportedly chase the signing of Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid.

The Mirror claim on their website that the Irons are keen on the six-cap Spanish international and believe he could be snapped up for £18million this summer, with Manuel Pellegrini and director of football Mario Husillos said to be big fans of the 22-year-old.

A creative midfielder with a good engine and drive in the centre of the pitch, he comes from the same mould as Wilshere – just without an injury record longer than your arm.

It is stated that West Ham made contact over the Spaniard in January, albeit resulting in nothing, but with their interest having seemingly remained it is not good news for Wilshere.

He might be a big name but he is also going to be on big wages and if Ceballos arrives this summer then can he warrant the club paying him the money he is currently picking up?

He is not likely to start ahead of the current Real Madrid man or current Irons Declan Rice and Mark Noble, so there is going to be a lot of pressure building on Wilshere to perform or be axed – perhaps permanently.
