Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher belives that Liverpool will beat Chelsea on Sunday and go on to win the Premier League by a single point.

Talking on Monday Night Football, Carragher and Gary Neville predicted the remaining results for the two teams in contention – Man City and Liverpool.

Liverpool are currently top by two points but they’ve played a game more. If both teams won all their remaining games, Pep Guardiola’s men would triumph.

However, Carragher doesn’t see it going down like that and he started off by confidently predicting a win for Liverpool in their toughest remaining game, against Chelsea on Sunday.

“The reason I think Liverpool will win, and I think Liverpool are a better side than Chelsea… I think Liverpool have a big advantage. Liverpool will have played Friday, Tuesday, Sunday. Chelsea have to play Monday, Thursday, away in Europe, and then they have to go to Anfield on Sunday. I’m comfortable Liverpool will win for that reason alone.”

Carragher went on to predict that Liverpool would also beat Cardiff, Huddersfield and Wolves, but would draw with Newcastle away in the penultimate game of the season, leaving them on 95 points.

The Sky pundit thought that Man City would also remain unbeaten for the rest of the season but, crucially, would drop points by drawing with Man United and Burnley, leaving them on 94 points. That would give the title to Liverpool by a single point.

By contrast, Gary Neville predicted that Man City would win by a single point, with Liverpool drawing against Chelsea and Newcastle.

OPINION

Hmm. So a former Liverpool player has plotted a course that sees Liverpool win by a single point and a former Man United player has seen them thwarted by one point. However, as Neville said on Monday Night Football, neither of the two options are good for him – maybe Man City winning the title is the lesser of two evils. It does show that the title run-in is set to be a classic and that Liverpool’s game against Chelsea this Sunday could be a decider. If Liverpool win it they’ll be the favourites, with four winnable games left. Man City have got Tottenham (after playing them twice in the Champions League) and then their own decider against Man United. We think points will be dropped by both teams and there will be more twists and turns before the season’s ended. If we had to choose, though, we’re going to go with Carragher. We think Liverpool have the easier games left and their late winner against Tottenham could be the one that ends up leading them to their first ever Premier League title.
