Everton have enjoyed the influence of their South American imports this season with Richarlison and Bernard making waves on Merseyside with their performances.

The Brazilian pair have been two of the Toffees’ stand out performers and so you can understand why Marcel Brands and the transfer team at Goodison Park might well be looking at the continent this summer to find a future star for the squad.

Guardian journalist Ed Aarons has suggested on his personal Twitter account that Everton are hunting a potential deal for Paraguay international forward Angel Romero, currently plying his trade at Brazilian outfit Corinthians, with Premier League rivals West Ham said to have held previous interest in the 26-year-old.

A winger or centre forward by trade, the Paraguayan has 13 caps for his country – a decent return some might think – but his numbers are nothing to write home about.

In his 146 game professional club career Romero has only scored 20 goals and chipped in with 15 assists – a worrying return for someone who is meant to be a creative spark up front.

With 27 yellow cards he appears to be more likely to pick up a booking than grab a game changing goal or assist and with the Premier League a gulf above in terms of the quality in Brazil’s top flight, his potential impact of a move to Everton has got to be questioned.

Simply put, there have got to be better options for the Toffees out there and they need to avoid making a blunder with Romero’s capture.
